“It is a mystery thriller drama with an occult atmosphere. Although it is a genre play, I made it so that even those who do not like genre dramas can easily follow the story.” (Park Hyun-seok PD)
On the afternoon of the 15th, the press conference for the drama ‘Hometown’ was held online. The event was attended by PD Park Hyun-seok, actors Yoo Jae-myung, Han Ye-ri, Uhm Tae-goo, and Lee Re.
PD Park Hyun-seok, who was recognized for his solid directing skills through ‘Secret Forest’, emphasized that this work does not focus only on the provocative events that are the main characteristics of the genre.
He reiterated, “Severe situations are used as a genre device, but in our drama, that is not the main thing, and it is a story that needs to be interpreted by the actors to be completed. Rather, I think you can watch it comfortably without being conscious of the genre.” .
Yoo Jae-myung plays Choi Hyung-in, a detective in the homicide squad who lost his wife to a horrific terrorist crime. Choi Hyung-in is responsible for a murder case after living like a ghost for 10 years, feeling guilty about letting his wife die.
Yoo Jae-myung mentioned his relationship with PD Park Hyun-seok when asked about the reason for his appearance.
Yoo Jae-myung said, “‘Secret Forest’ was also my life’s work. That’s why I made a special appearance in season 2 directed by Park Hyun-seok. At that time, the director said, ‘I think we’ll see each other.’ After that, we met again with the script of ‘Hometown’. ‘Hometown’ was not well interpreted, so I was curious. It’s scary and it’s a burden, but it’s an attractive work,” he said.
Han Ye-ri took on the role of Jo Jung-hyeon, who endures the social stigma of being a terrorist’s family. Jo Jung-hyeon, who ironically reconstructed a life destroyed by his brother’s crimes through his brother’s daughter and nephew Jo Jae-young, faces tragedy once again when her nephew, whom she treasures like her life, disappears.
Han Ye-ri said, “After seeing the inspiring scenario of ‘Hometown’, I was curious about the next story. I thought that other people would enjoy the drama as well. It was easy to choose.”
Uhm Tae-goo played the role of ‘Cho Kyung-ho’, a mystery prisoner who committed the worst indiscriminate terrorist incident in history. As soon as he returned from studying in Japan in 1989, he was sentenced to life in prison after committing a terrible indiscriminate terror by spraying ‘sarin gas’, a so-called murder gas, at his hometown train station.
Uhm Tae-gu said, “There are many meanings hidden in the lines. There was a lot of pressure, but the lines seem to be the point. If you look carefully at that part, I think you can enjoy the mystery genre.”
Meanwhile, ‘Hometown’ drew attention in that it is the next work of Han Ye-ri, who made her name known around the world through the movie ‘Minari‘. Regarding this, Han Ye-ri said, “For me, what happened in ‘Minari’ is like a dream.”
Meanwhile, ‘Hometown’ will air its first episode at 10:30 pm on the 22nd.
